Dr. ADRIANO MICHAEL BERNARDIN

The group's initial research (1998) focused on the development of ceramic tiles for cladding, both the ceramic support and its vitreous layers (engobe and glaze). The main topics were ceramic formulation methods and raw material substitution. Subsequently, the group researched the development of new materials from industrial by-products (ash, slag, waste). The main topics were the development of glasses, glass-ceramics, geopolymers and cellular ceramics (glassy foams). The group is currently working on the development of functional surfaces for ceramic tiles and cementitious products. The main themes are the inorganic synthesis of nano oxides (nano ZnO, NiOH, FexOy, AlON already developed) and the development of photocatalytic surfaces (mainly from TiO2).
